Box Score 2 GRINNELL, Iowa – Grinnell College's volleyball team wrapped up a very successful showing at the ACM (Associated Colleges of the Midwest) Invitational Sunday by strolling past Macalester College 25-17, 25-19 and 25-9 at Darby Gymnasium.
The win gave Grinnell a 3-1 mark at the six-team event, second only behind Carleton College's 4-0 record.
The Pioneers'
Lindsay Fujimoto '15 and
Evelyn Weidman '17 were named to the All-Tournament Team.
Claire Weidman '15 had an incredible hitting performance against Macalester, putting down 13 kills and compiling a .429 efficiency.
Natalie Duncombe '15 added nine kills and hit .350, while
Sarah Garringer '18 had six kills and hit .385.
Margaret Giles '18 added 29 assists, while
Evelyn Weidman served up four aces and her sister, Claire, three.
Fujimoto tallied 13 digs and
Evelyn Weidman had three blocks.
In the first set, Grinnell used a 9-4 run to turn a 6-5 lead into a 15-9 cushion.
Claire Weidman served three aces in that span as the Pioneers rolled to victory. The second set was tied at 16-all before the Pioneers closed things out with a 9-3 run. Fujimoto had three service points during that span.
The third set was all Grinnell, as
Sarah Garringer '18 served the first eight points of the game, including two aces.
Evelyn Weidman later added a five-point service run that put Grinnell ahead 14-1 as the Pioneers went on to cap the victory.
Earlier in the day, Grinnell lost 25-17, 25-16 and 25-18 to Carleton. Duncombe had 10 kills and hit .320 for the Pioneers, while Giles had 20 assists and
Sydney McClendon '16 two service aces. Fujimoto tallied 21 digs and
Evelyn Weidman had four blocks.
Grinnell will compete in the St. Catherine University Tournament next weekend in St. Paul, Minn.
