Box Score GRINNELL, Iowa – The Grinnell College men's soccer team scored the first goal of the season surrendered thus far by Aurora University as the teams played to a 1-all draw Saturday afternoon at Springer Field.
Aurora took a 1-0 halftime lead while stretching its defensive scoreless streak to seven halves. The Spartans' goal came in the 35th minute.
The score remained the same until
Joseph Brown '15 found the back of the net in the 87th minute to send the Pioneer faithful into celebration. Brown's goal came on an assist from
Nicholas Brule '17, who lobbed a pass into the center of the box. From there, Brown headed the ball into the goal from about 10 yards out.
Neither team scored in the extra periods to preserve the tie. Grinnell is now 0-1-2, while Aurora moved to 3-0-1.
Grinnell won the shots battle 14-12, with Brown taking five of those and
Antonio Dimarco '18 three.
Isaiah Tyree '15 recorded six saves at the keeper spot for Grinnell.
The Pioneers host Coe College at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Springer Field.
