Box Score GRINNELL, Iowa – The Grinnell College men's soccer team geared up for its regular-season finale by blanking Coe College 3-0 Thursday afternoon at Springer Field.
Grinnell got goals from
Michael Hurley,
Evan Sorenson and
Edward Scott after the contest was scoreless at halftime.
Hurley scored in the 72nd minute on an assist by
Noah Fluharty. On the play, Fluharty dribbled the ball into the box from the right side and made several moves around two defenders before passing the ball in front of the goal. Hurley corralled it in the middle of several Cope defenders and fired into the right side of the net.
Sorenson gave Grinnell some insurance in the 78th minute. Hurley dribbled the ball up the field and shot between two defenders. Coe's keeper came out and blocked the ball before Sorensen ran in for the rebound and delivered a shot to the middle of the goal.
Scott finished off the scoring in the 88th minute. After a corner kick by Grinnell was cleared by Coe to the left top corner of the box, Scott ran in from the left side of the field to kick it above the keeper into the net.
Major May worked 78 minutes at keeper for Grinnell and had two saves before
Michael Nattinger finished off the shutout and recorded a save.
Grinnell won the shots battle 12-4, with Hurley taking four shots and
Juan Marin two.
Grinnell improved to 9-7, while Coe fell to 6-12-1.
The Pioneers entertain Beloit College Saturday in a Senior Day affair. The contest is slated for 1:30 p.m.
