MOUNT VERNON, Iowa – The Grinnell College volleyball team looks to continue its historical season Friday when it competes in the 2016 Midwest Conference Tournament hosted by Cornell College.
The Pioneers are the third seed in the event and play second-seeded St. Norbert College at 4:30 p.m. Top-seeded Cornell and No. 4 Lawrence University play at 7 p.m., with the winners facing each other at 1 p.m. Saturday for the title and league's automatic berth to the NCAA Division III National Tournament.
During the regular season, Grinnell took a set from the Green Knights, but the visitors won the match 3-1 at Darby Gymnasium.
Grinnell has a 14-10 mark, with the win total being the most for the program since the 2009 season. The Pioneers have won eight of their past 10 matches.

Emma Willhardt '19 is among the MWC leaders in two categories, ranking first in blocks with 27 and seventh in hitting efficiency at .273.
Sydney Vrecenar '18 is third in digs at 5.48 per set,
Margaret Giles '18 ranks fifth in assists with an average of 8.42 and
Olivia Fromm '17 is seventh in kills with 99.
Anika Johnson leads St. Norbert, 14-14 overall, at the net with 3.50 kills per set and a MWC-leading hitting efficiency of .394. She is also tops in the conference in blocks per set at 0.86.
Lexie Van Hiel is second in blocks at 0.85, while Aubree Antosch is fifth in digs per set at 4.77.
