Box Score 2 MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Saturday was a day of perfection for the Grinnell College volleyball team, as the Pioneers wrapped up the North Central University Invitational with a pair of 3-0 victories.
In a 25-22, 25-21, 25-17 victory over the host school, Grinnell's
Emma Willhardt '19 recorded the second-best hitting percentage in program history with a mark of .750. She had 12 kills in 16 attempts with no errors, accounting for an efficiency bettered only by Cheyenne Hickox four years ago.
Ariel Lepito '17 added 10 kills and hit .500. As a team, Grinnell hit .288, which ranks among the top marks in team history.
Margaret Giles added 32 assists,
Christine Hood '17 had 11 digs and
Evelyn Weidman '17 came up with three total blocks.
Deanna Taylor '18 had two aces serves.
Grinnell led the first set 23-22 when a service error by the hosts and block by Giles gave Grinnell the win. The Pioneers trailed the second set 14-13 before going on a key five-point run that included three service points by
Olivia Fromm '17. Grinnell rolled from there for the win.
In the third set, there was an 8-all tie when Grinnell pulled away with a 7-2 run. Hood served five of those points for the Pioneers, who then finished off the victory.
Earlier Saturday, swept Trinity Bible College in three sets. Statistics were not immediately available.
Grinnell entertains Iowa Wesleyan University at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Darby Gymnasium.
