Pioneer women's tennis team completes perfect run through MWC

GRINNELL, Iowa - The Midwest Conference champion Grinnell College women's tennis team wrapped up league play unbeaten Sunday morning with a 9-0 win over Lawrence University at the Charles Benson Bear '39 Recreation and Athletic Center Field House.

Grinnell lost just eight games, including only one in doubles, while winning 96. The Pioneers, who improved to 9-0 in the league and 11-1 overall, are also riding an 11-match winning streak dating back to August.

Singles winners were Milica Cvrkota '21 (6-1, 6-4), Ali Hickey '21 (6-1, 6-1), Abby Nielsen '21 (6-0, 6-0), Anushka Joshi '18 (6-0, 6-0), Lily Hamilton '19 (6-0, 6-0) and Sydney Banach '18 (6-0, 6-0). Hamilton now has 47 career singles wins, ninth-best in Pioneer history.

Cvrokta and Amelia Cogan '19 won 8-1 at the top doubles spots, while the teams of Hickey-Nielsen and Banach-Shannon Hautzinger '18 won 8-0.

Both teams will be at the MWC Singles and Doubles Championships next weekend in Madison, Wis.
