Box Score GRINNELL, Iowa – When it got down to the nitty gritty, the Grinnell College men's soccer team responded.
After battling nearly the entire match to a scoreless tie, the Pioneers lit up the scoreboard with a goal in the 83rd minute on its way to a 1-0 victory over Coe College Friday afternoon at Springer Field.
Carlos Piedrasanta '20 had Grinnell's goal on an assist by
Antonio DiMarco '16. It was the third goal of Piedrasanta's collegiate career and the 16th assist for DiMarco, which ranks third in program history.
On the play, DiMarco made a nice cross just to the left of the box into the center of it. Piedrasanta received the pass and struck a nice shot into the top right corner of the net.
Grinnell dominated the shots battle, winning 23-4 after outshooting the Kohawks 12-1 in the first period.
Jasper Yang '21 began his college career on a solid note with six shots, while
Artis Curiskis '18 and DiMarco had three each and
Francisco Sanchez-Conde '18,
Evan Sorenson '19 and
Thomas Pflipsen '20 two apiece.
Keepers
Michael Spicer '21 and
Jared Cloutier '20 combined for the shutout at keeper, with Cloutier turning away two shots.
The Pioneers play another Iowa Conference team Saturday, traveling to the northeast part of the state to face the University of Dubuque. Kickoff is at 1 p.m.
