Box Score DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Grinnell College men's soccer team showed it was evenly matched with regionally-ranked University of Dubuque from the start.
But after 90 minutes of play Saturday, the North Region's No. 5 team eked out a 3-2 win in non-conference play.
Grinnell jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute on a goal by
Artis Curiskis '18 on
Antonio DiMarco's '18 assist.
It marks the 16th goal of Curiskis' career and DiMarco's assist was his second in as many days, pushing his career total to 17. That figure puts him alone in third place on Grinnell's all-time chart.
The Spartans tied things later in the first half and went ahead 2-1 in the second half before
Francisco Sanchez-Conde '18 found the back of the net in the 60th minute on
Kyle Buse's '20 assist. Sanchez-Conde now has three goals in his career, while Buse's assist was his first.
However, the hosts scored in the 70th minute and held on for the win.
Dubuque won the shots battle 18-12. Curiskis had three shots for Grinnell, while
Noah Fluharty '19,
Carlos Piedrasanta '20 and
Jasper Yang '21 had two apiece.
Michael Spicer '21 played the first half at keeper and
Jared Cloutier '20 the second for Grinnell. Cloutier had five saves.
Grinnell, 1-1, plays its annual alumni match Saturday at Springer Field. Dubuque is 1-0.
