Box Score 2 DUBUQUE, Iowa – Grinnell College's volleyball team continues to tear it up, winning its 10th match in the last 11 outings with a pair of sweeps Saturday.
2, 25-20, 25-15 to move to 10-3 on the season. Additionally, Grinnell has won 11 sets of volleyball in a row.
In the win over Emmaus,
Emma Willhardt '19 pounded down 13 kills and hit .500 while
Kaylin Kuhn '21 had eight kills.
Margaret Giles '18 contributed 36 assists, 11 digs and two ace serves.
Nora Hill '19 had three aces and
Madison Smith '20 tallied two.
Deanna Taylor '18 registered 14 digs and Kuhn 11.
Sophia Carbajal '21 added three total blocks.
Grinnell trailed the first set 21-19 before Taylor served three points in a row to put Grinnell ahead. However, Emmaus forced ties at 22-all and 23-all before Carbajal had a kill and Hill an ace serve to finish off the win for the Pioneers.
The second set was also tight. Tied at 18-all, Grinnell went on a key four-point run that included a three-point service run by Smith.
The third set was tied 10-all when Grinnell rattled off a 6-1 run to pull away. Hill served four of those points as the Pioneers won easily.
Against Grace Bible, Kuhn and Carbajal had 10 kills each and Giles 29 assists. Taylor registered 19 digs and Kuhn 14, while Smith had three aces. Carbajal tallied four total blocks.
Grinnell plays its first home match of the season Wednesday when Cornell College visits Darby Gymnasium to open Midwest Conference play. Action starts at 7 p.m.
