Grinnell men's cross country team runs well in loaded field of nationally-ranked squads

LA CROSSE, Wis. – Competing in a loaded field that included 14 nationally-ranked teams, the Grinnell College men's cross country squad had a strong showing.
 
The Pioneers were 32nd in a rugged 50-team field at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Kollege Town Sports Pre-National Invitational Saturday.
 
John Lennon '19, Grinnell's steady leader, again was by placing 112th of 343 runners with a time of 26:36.6 over the 8-kilometer course. Gray Streetman '19 was next in line in 150th place, running 26:55.4, and Lucas Chamberland '21 wound up 175th in 27:10.3.
 
Rounding out Grinnell's list of scorers were John Osler '20 (218th in 27:37.7) and Matt Lieberman '21 (244th in 27:53.1). Other top runners for Grinnell were Jackson Schulte '20 (272nd in 28:17.1) and Matthew Phipps '20 (286th in 28:28.9).
 
Grinnell finished with 891 points. The winner was top-ranked North Central of Illinois with 41, while the individual champ was Dhruvil Patel of North Central with a time of 25:03.5.
 
The Pioneers' next action is Oct. 27 at the Midwest Conference Championships, hosted by Lake Forest College.
