ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – With
John Lennon '19 leading the charge with one of the best performances in Grinnell College men's cross country history, the Pioneers raced to a strong finish at the highly-competitive Brissman-Lundeen Invitational hosted by Augustana College Friday.

Lennon ran the 8-kilometer race at Saukie Golf Course in 25:05.6 to place fourth of 331 runners. That effort is sixth-best in Grinnell history and the best clocking by a Pioneer since 2009. His efforts helped Grinnell to a fifth-place team finish in the 27-squad field with 183 points.

Gray Streetman '19 was next in line for Grinnell, placing 41st in 26:43.1, while
Matt Lieberman '21 was 47th in 26:54.0. Rounding out the list of scorers were
Lucas Chamberland '21 (57th in 27:01.9) and
Jackson Schulte '20 (70th in 27:13.3). Also for the Pioneers,
John Osler '20 was 73rd in 27:15.6 and
Matthew Phipps '20 was 87th in 27:08.4.

The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point won the team title with 43 points, while Indian Hills had the individual champ in Marcus Graham, who finished in 24:51.8. That was only 13 seconds in front of Lennon.

Grinnell heads to the Wartburg Invitational next Saturday.
