WAVERLY, Iowa - Grinnell College's
Matt Lieberman '21 earned All-Region honors for the first time in his career Saturday morning, racing to a 34th-place finish at the NCAA Division III Central Region Championships.
Lieberman ran the 8-kilometer course at Wartburg College in 26 minutes, 27.88 seconds. Lieberman worked his way up throughout the race, moving from 59th at the mile mark to 46th at the 3-kilometer mark and then to 33rd at 5 kilometers. Next in line in the Pioneers' finishing order was
Andrew Nickeson '23, who was 81st in the 201-runner event in 27:22.38.
Rounding out Grinnell's scorers were
John Osler '20 (110th in 28:05.26),
Matthew Phipps '20 (118th in 28:12.62) and
George Kosinski '23 (143rd in 28:43.15). Other Pioneers were
Declan O'Reilly '21 (163rd in 29:36.91) and
Kody Harrison '22 (172nd in 29:59.09).
Grinnell was 18th in the team standings with 483 points. The winner was Wartburg with 52 points, while Matthew Wilkinson of Carleton College claimed the individual title in 24:56.78.
