Box Score 2 GALESBURG, Ill. – Grinnell College kept its perfect Midwest Conference record intact Saturday with a straight-set sweep of Knox College in volleyball action.
The Pioneers (16-9, 6-0 MWC) had 46 assists in the match, the seventh-most in program history for a three-setter, and had a season-high hitting efficiency of .347.
Julianna Roth '23 had 23 assists and
Emily Brewer '24 contributed 16.
Kaylin Kuhn '22 had 14 kills and hit .407, while
Rachel Woock '23 tallied nine kills while hitting .533.
Emmy Nyquist '24 and
Olivia Jensen '22 added four and three aces, respectively,
Payton Lowrey '22 came up with 15 digs and
Jenna Keller '24 had two blocks.
Grinnell gradually pulled away in the first set to win 25-20, but the Pioneers fell behind 15-10 in the second before going on a nine-point run as Kuhn pounded down four kills and Nyquist served up an ace. It was later 21-18 before Kuhn and Killin each had kills, Killin and Keller teamed up on a block and Knox had an attack error to finish things off at 25-21.
Knox (7-10, 2-4 MWC) led the third set 17-16, but Grinnell answered with a five-point run to take control. Lowrey had two aces in that span as the Pioneers went on to win 25-20.
Grinnell's other match on the day against Central College was halted due to a power outage.
Lowrey now ranks fifth in program history for digs with 1,274, while Kuhn ranks 14
th for a season in kills with 352. As a team, Grinnell has 1,170 kills this season, which ranks 11
th in program history, and 193 aces, which is 12
th.
Grinnell plays at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville on Friday.
