Youth charge propels Grinnell women's cross country team to runner-up finish at MWC Championships

MONMOUTH, Ill. – Grinnell College runners claimed eight All-Conference spots while leading the Pioneers to a runner-up finish at the Midwest Conference Women's Cross Country Championships Saturday.
 
MWC Newcomer of the Year Keely Miyamoto '26 led Grinnell with a fifth-place finish, touring the 6-kilomter Gibson Woods course in 23 minutes, 37.80 seconds. That helped Grinnell to 41 team points, finishing only behind champion Ripon College's total of 41.
 
Hannah Roark '26 and Talia Harrison '26 continued the Pioneers' youth charge by placing sixth and seventh in 23:43.12 and 23:46.64, respectively. Roark's time ranks 33rd in program history and Harrison's is 35th.
 
Emma Schaefer '23 was next for Grinnell, placing eighth in 23:47.89. She is now a three-time All-MWC honoree. Sarah Torrence '23 rounded out Grinnell's scorers in 15th place, running the race in 24:04.88. She is a two-time All-MWC recipient.
 
Other All-MWC performers were Megan LeBlanc '23 (17th in 24:22.89), Diana Barba '26 (18th in 24:26.50) and Mira Diamond-Berman '25 (20th in 24:35.49). LeBlanc has earned All-MWC honors twice in her career.
 
Cristyn Oliver of Lawrence University won the individual title in a time of 22:35.84.
 
Grinnell will run at the Luther Saga Cup next Friday.
