Grinnell women's tennis team wraps up whirlwind day with shutout of Central

GRINNELL, Iowa - After a four-plus month hiatus, Grinnell College's women's tennis team picked up its competitive slate with a whirlwind day Sunday.

The Pioneers traveled to Waterloo to begin the day against an NCAA Division I foe, the University of Northern Iowa. The Panthers came away with a 7-0 victory in a match played using D-I rules where all three doubles matches account for just one point.

The visitors then buzzed back to Grinnell to face Central College in the Bear Center Field House. The Pioneers posted a dominating performance in the 9-0 victory.

The Pioneers opened by sweeping doubles play with the duos of Lily Perrin '25-Erin Jarvis '25 (8-4), Ioanna Giannakou '24-Kalea Martin '25 (8-0) and Sabrina Tang '23-Sydney Marin '25 (8-1).

Grinnell finished off the victory by blowing through singles play, winning 72 games while losing just five. The Pioneers got 6-0, 6-0 shutout wins from Sophia de los Reyes '23 at No. 3, Perrin at No. 4 and Jarvis at No. 5.

Tang and Irene Agusti '24 celebrated their national and regional singles rankings with victories at the top two spots, as Tang won 6-1, 6-0 and Agusti by a 6-1, 6-2 count.

Grinnell, 11-1 on the season, finished off the shutout as Utsah Kalra '25 won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6 singles.

The Pioneers head to Cedar Rapids next Saturday to play Coe College.
