Grinnell preps for spring break trip with hard-fought battle at nationally-ranked foe

LAKE GENEVA, Wis. - The Grinnell College women's tennis team tuned up for its spring break trip with a hard-fought battle against nationally-ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Saturday.

 
And although the Pioneers lost 7-2, they stood toe-to-toe with the 33rd-ranked Warhawks at Lake Geneva Tennis Club.
 
The hosts got out to 3-0 in doubles, including a thrilling contest at No. 1 where Sabrina Tang '23 and Irene Agusti '24 played their nationally-ranked foes to an 8-6 decision.
 
Grinnell's victories came at Nos. 4 and 5 singles. Mira Manchanda '24 won consecutive 6-3 sets at the No. 4 slot and Sophia de los Reyes '23 rolled by her opponent 6-1, 6-3 at No. 5.
 
Another exciting match was at No. 1 singles, where two nationally-ranked opponents squared off against each other. Tang lost the first set 6-1, regrouped to win the second 6-2 and then lost a narrow 6-4 decision in the third.
 
Grinnell, 12-2 on the season, begins its spring break slate in Orlando, Fla., on March 21.
