Results

MADISON, Wis. – What a difference a few weeks can make.

That proved to be the case for the Grinnell College women's tennis team in a 5-4 victory over nationally-ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in the consolation match of the Midwest Invite Saturday.

That's the same Warhawk team the Pioneers lost to by a 7-2 count three weeks ago.

The win over the No. 33 team in the nation is Grinnell's second over a nationally-ranked foe in two days and the third this season.

Grinnell, 16-5, got out to a 2-1 lead through doubles as Sabrina Tang '23 and Ioanna Giannakou '24 won 8-7 over the third-ranked team in the region in the No. 1 slot. Lily Perrin '25 and Erin Jarvis '25 added an 8-4 victory at No. 3 to put the Pioneers ahead entering singles.

Grinnell clinched the match with three thrilling singles wins. Those came from Tang at No. 1 (7-6, 6-2), Sophia de los Reyes '23 at No. 4 (6-4, 7-6) and Utsah Kalra '25 at No. 6 (4-6, 6-1, 10-4).

Tang's win gives her 23 this season, sixth all-time at Grinnell, and 45 for her career, which is 15th.

The Pioneers hit the road Sunday to play a dual at Luther College.
