GC men's track and field team gears up for league meet with big performances

MONMOUTH, Ill. - Grinnell College's men's track and field team tuned up for next weekend's Midwest Conference Championships with some big performances at Saturday's Fighting Scot Invitational.

Xavier James '25 was stellar in the hurdles, winning the 110-meter variety in 17.59 seconds and placing second in the 400 event in 59.45.

Aiden Gilbert '23 was runner-up in the long jump with a leap of 21 feet, 9 inches, while the 4x400 relay team of Tommy Jacobs '22, Andrew Fuller '24, Declan O'Reilly '22 and Zach Willis '22 had the same placing in 3:25.77.

Willis and O'Reilly raced to third-place finishes in the 400 and 800 with times of 50.83 and 1:57.45, respectively. Micah Cantor '24 was fourth in the 800 in 1:57.75 and Gilbert sixth in the 400 in 51.27.

Jacobs and Neil Israni '23 placed fourth in the 200 and 5000 in 23.17 and 20:45.99. Grinnell came up with a strong showing in the 1500, as Dan Snyder '22, Bradley Ramsey '24 and Carter Williams '25 were fifth, sixth and seventh in 4:23.69, 4:24.59 and 4:25.69.

Theo Richter '23, already third all-time at Grinnell in the hammer, bettered his top performance with an effort of 149-5 while placing fifth. He added a sixth-place finish in the discus at 119-11, while Garret Bean '24 took eighth at 110-9.

Jacobs, Gilbert, James and Fuller were fifth in the 4x100 relay with a time of 44.52 and Sterling Hollond '25 placed eighth in the pole vault at 12-1 ½.

Grinnell was fifth in the team standings with 86 points.
