GRINNELL, Iowa –
Michael Johnson has joined Grinnell College as an assistant track and field coach.
Johnson, from Alabaster, Ala., attended the University of Montevallo where he graduated in 2018 with a bachelor's degree in kinesiology. While there, he competed for the cross country and track and field teams, twice earning all-conference honors in cross country and once in track and field in the steeplechase.
Johnson then attended Auburn University at Montgomery, earning his master's degree in exercise physiology in 2021. While at AUM, Johnson served as a graduate assistant for the cross country program and coached three runners to all-conference honors.
After that, he was hired by Drake University in Des Moines as a volunteer assistant for cross country and track and field. Multiple Bulldogs earned all-conference honors on the course and on the track, and the men's team set a school record for points scored in winning the Missouri Valley Conference title in the fall of 2021.
