Aiyana Rockwell, Brian Goodell collect USTFCCCA All-Academic honors

Grinnell women's and men's teams also awarded All-Academic status

GRINNELL, Iowa – Grinnell College's Aiyana Rockwell '24 and Brian Goodell '24 were not only stellar as track and field athletes, but also in the classroom.

Both Pioneers collected All-Academic honors from the United States Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) at the NCAA Division III level. To earn the honor, student-athletes must have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.30 or higher and rank among the top 50 individuals nationwide in an individual event or top 35 in a relay.

Rockwell, an economics major from Louisville, Colo., ranked 476th nationally in the women's discus with a season-best toss of 137 feet, 3 inches. Goodell, a computer science/political science major from Northfield, Minn., was 38th in the men's 3000-meter steeplechase after running a best time of 9 minutes, 11.40 seconds.

They are Grinnell's first Al-Academic honorees since Agne Lukoseviciute and Sarina Kopf in 2020.

Additionally, both Grinnell's women's and men's squads were named USTFCCCA All-Academic teams by posting team cumulative GPAs of 3.1 or higher. Coach Jeff Pedersen's squads easily met the benchmark, as the women's team had a GPA of 3.68 and the men a 3.56.
