Grinnell women's XC team has strong performance at talent-laden Les Duke Invite

GRINNELL, Iowa – Grinnell College's women's cross country team toppled the nation's top-ranked team on its way to a big performance on its home course Saturday.
 
The Pioneers outraced No. 1 Wartburg College by a score of 70-87 to place third in the loaded field at the Les Duke Invitational.
 
Keely Miyamoto '25 improved to 16th on Grinnell's all-time 6-kilometer chart, running the race at the Grinnell College Golf Course in 23 minutes, 2.92 seconds. That was good for fourth place at the meet in a loaded field of 102 runners.
 
Morgan Karow '25 was equally impressive, placing seventh in 24:02.14 to put her 44th on Grinnell's all-time list. Rounding out the Pioneers' list of scorers were Hannah Roark '25 (17th in 25:13.87), Diana Barba '25 (20th in 25:49.27) and Crystal Kaczmarczyk '25 (22nd in 26:01.40).
 
Also for Grinnell, Grace Charron '25 was 24th in 26:11.82 and Talia Harrison '25 placed 25th in 26:11.95.
 
The individual champion was Caroline McMartin of Central College in 22:21.67. Central, ranked 21st nationally and fourth in the Central Region, won the meet with 26 points and Simpson College, ranked fifth in the region, was second with 60.
 
Grinnell doesn't compete again until Sept. 22 at the Roy Griak Invitational in Minneapolis, Minn.
