Grinnell goes shoulder to shoulder with nation's best at D-III Twilight

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Grinnell College's men's cross country team went shoulder to shoulder with some of the nation's best Friday night at the NCAA D-III Twilight.

Competing at LaVern Gibson Championship Course, which will also host nationals, Grinnell finished 34th in a 58-team field that included seven squads ranked nationally.

Grinnell, which scored 933 points, was led by Luke Robinson '26. He placed 118th of 404 runners, touring the 8-kilometer course in 26 minutes, 17.3 seconds.

Connor Heagy '26 was next in line, placing 171st in 26:46.9, and Sam Beck '27 was 196th in 26:58.9. After that it was a first-year charge. Rounding out Grinnell's scorers were Greyson Imm '28 and Jason Newman '28, who were 274th and 290th in 27:41.9 and 27:51.1, respectively. Next in line for Grinnell were David In '28 (292nd in 27:54.0) and Aidan Michaelson '28 (325th in 28:22.8).

Gunner Schlender of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater was the individual champ in 24:09.0 and No. 5 Pomona-Pitzer won the team crown with 65 points.

Grinnell also had a squad compete in the Open Division, as the Pioneers finished 15th of 28 teams with 460 points.

The Pioneers were led by Carter Williams '25, who was 122nd of 271 runners in 28:41.42. Other top performers were Cameron Welch-Groves '26 (140th in 28:55.50) and Nick Ouhabi '28 (147th in 29:03.30).

Grinnell heads to Rock Island, Ill., on Oct. 19 for the Regional Preview meet.
