IOWA CITY, Iowa - Roger Smith '28 put together one of the best rounds in Grinnell College men's golf history on his way to a runner-up finish at the Central Fall Classic.

Smith followed up Monday's round at Finkbine with a blazing 4-under-par 68 Tuesday, the third-best round in program history. He finished the two-day event score of 144, which is also third-best and the top score at Grinnell since Jared Baszler had the same in 2002.

Smith, who outdid 69 other golfers and was only topped by Knox College's Thomas Lyaudet who had a 141, lit up the course with birdies on holes 2, 4, 6, 7, 11 and 15 while parring every other hole but a pair.

Smith's performance helped Grinnell to move from eighth to sixth in the team standings. After shooting 314 on Monday, the Pioneers followed up with a 299 on Tuesday for a total of 613.

Thornton Walker '26 tied for 19th in the individual standings with a 153, shooting a 76 on Tuesday. Eshaan Sethi '25 had a 77 on the final day for a 156 and John Robinson '25 shot 80 for a 164.
