Grinnell men's soccer team excited for rematch with Foresters in MWC Tournament

Pioneers and Lake Forest square off at 11 a.m. Friday

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - After handing Midwest Conference unbeaten Lake Forest College its only tie in league play early in the season, Grinnell College's men's soccer team will get another chance at the Foresters Friday in the MWC Tournament.

Grinnell (8-5-5,4-2-2 MWC) is the fourth seed in the tourney and will play top-seeded Lake Forest (8-7-3, 7-0-1 MWC) at 11 a.m. on Farwell Field. The other semifinal pits second-seeded Illinois College and No. 3 Knox College at 1:30 p.m.

The winners play at 11 a.m. Saturday on Mohr Field for the title and automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Lake Forest needed a goal in the final minute to secure a 3-all tie with the Pioneers on Sep. 28.

Grinnell is third in league matches in scoring average (2.37 goals per outing) and fourth in goals against average (1.38). The Foresters are first in goals against (0.88) and second in scoring (3.00).

Grinnell has two players among the top 10 for goals in conference play, as both Zak Serby '25 and Oliver Northing '26 rank seventh with three apiece. Dylan Maddux '25 is third in assists with three and Anthony Hong '27 ranks eighth with two. Jayson Kunkel '26 is third in goals against average at 1.37.

Lake Forest's Andrew Swacha leads the league in goals against average at 0.68. Peter Cirbo is fourth in goals with five and Gio Diaz is the assists leader with six.
