Grinnell men's track and field team earns 6 victories in season opener

GRINNELL, Iowa - Grinnell College's men's track and field team collected six victories in its season opening meet Friday at the Bear Center Field House.

Grinnell got wins from Ben Abelow '28 in the 5000-meter run (16 minutes, 4.24 seconds), Jesse Miller '28 in the long jump (6.42 meters), Luca Fornari '25 in the pole vault (4.25 meters), Caden Pfister '27 in the triple jump (11.71 meters), Ian Clawson '26 in the weight throw (17.59 meters) and the 4x200 relay team of Jake Logue '28, Pfister, Xavier James '25 and Miller (1:32.69, third-best time in GC history).

Runners-up were Logue in the 60 (7.10 seconds, second all-time) and Pfister in the 300 (36.95). Keaton Fitzgerald '26 and Miller tied for fifth in the 60 at 7.22, the seventh-best times at GC. In the 300, Linus O'Brien '28 was third in 37.19.

James was fourth in the 60 hurdles in 9.29. Jacob Schomberg '28 ran the race in 9.62, which is fifth all-time at Grinnell. Owen Block '27 was third in the mile in 4:53.47, while Jason Newman '28 and James Snyder '25 placed third and fourth in the 5000 in 16:13.83 and 16:16.20, respectively.

Caleb Leopoldo '28 was third in the shot put at 12.33 meters and Ty Leonard '28 placed fourth in the long jump with a leap of 6.11 meters. Oleg Brennan '28 had a toss of 12.52 meters in the weight throw, 10th all-time at Grinnell.
