Grinnell golfers show sharp improvement on 2nd day of Saint John's Invite

ST. CLOUD, Minn. - Grinnell College's men's golf team showed sharp improvement on the second day of the Saint John's University Invitational Sunday.


After shooting a 318 in Saturday's opening round, the Pioneers responded with a 313 the following day for a 631. That was good for 11th place.

Thornton Walker '26 and newcomer Roger Smith '28 shared top honors for the Pioneers, tying for 23rd with 8-over-par 152s in the 78-golfer field. Smith had a 2-over-par 74 Sunday at Blackberry Ridge Golf Course, while Walker shot 78.

Ayan Sheikh '28 had an 82 Sunday for an overall score of 163 and Kevin Carpenter '25 improved from 85 to 79 for a 164. John Robinson '25 rounded things off for Grinnell with a 96 for an overall total of 191.

Saint John's won the team title with a 576 and had the individual champ in Ethan Kress, who shot 137.

Grinnell is at the Buena Vista University Fall Invite next weekend.
