WAVERLY, Iowa – With
Hannah Roark '26 and
Sindri Bonner '28 making big leaps on the program's all-time leader board, Grinnell College's women's cross country team knocked off a nationally-ranked squad with a runner-up finish at the Wartburg Dan Huston/Steve Johnson Invitational on Saturday.

The Pioneers, who are unranked nationally and fifth in the Midwest Region, rolled up 89 points to beat third-place Gustavus Adolphus College and fourth-place Wartburg. The latter is ranked 20
th nationally and third in the region.

The only team to outdo the Pioneers in the 15-team field was Central College, ranked 28
th nationally and fourth in the region. The Dutch were just 28 points ahead of Grinnell with 61.

Roark was sixth of more than 200 runners, running the 6-kilometer course in 22 minutes, 48.2 seconds. That boosted her from 15
th to 13
th on Grinnell's all-time chart. Bonner was 10
th in 23:02.4, moving from 41
st to 18
th on the career list.

The rest of the Pioneers' scoring pack finished 23
rd, 27
th and 28
th with
Arushi Kharbanda '29 (24:02.1),
Lizzie Drew (24:09.3) and
Emma Wharton-Hsieh '27 (24:10.2). respectively. Also for Grinnell,
Talia Harrison '26 was 28
th in 24:11.1 and
Tennyson Shultz '28 took 30
th in 24:15.1.
