Depth on display for GC men's track and field team on Day 2 of MWC Championships

MONMOUTH, Ill. - Grinnell College's men's track and field team put its depth on display with several big finishes Saturday at the Midwest Conference Indoor Championships hosted by Monmouth College.

Luke Robinson '26 raced to a third-place finish in the 3000-meter run in 8 minutes, 38.79 seconds. That time ranks fourth in program history and is the best at GC since 2004. Jason Newman '28 added an eighth-place finish in that race in 9:00.63.

Grinnell finished fifth in the team standings with 60.5 points. Cornell College was the champ at 120.

Both Grinnell relays placed fifth. Xavier James '25, Andy Chestovich '26, Linus O'Brien '28 and Caden Pfister '27 ran 3:27.96 in the 4x400, which ranks fourth in GC history and is the best time for the program since 2004. Carter Williams '25, Clay Glessner '28, Owen Block '27 and Connor Heagy '26 finished the distance medley in 10:47.72.

Also placing fifth were Ian Clawson '26 in the weight throw (16.84 meters) and Casey Oliveira '27 in the triple jump (13.03 meters, eighth all-time at GC and best since 1996). Murphy Dykstra '27 was sixth in the triple jump with a leap of 12.93 meters, which ranks 10th in program history.

Jake Logue '28 was sixth in the 60 with a time of 7.13, the same placing as O'Brien in the 400. O'Brien ran 51.08, the third-best time in GC history and best in the program since 2004. Ilem Leisher '27 took seventh in the 60 hurdles in 9.06 and Chestovich placed eighth in the 800 in 1:59.30.
