Fadden's shatters own school record in 100 as Grinnell enjoys stellar day at own meet

GRINNELL, Iowa - On a spring day featuring perfect weather, Grinnell College's men's track and field team got a boost from a runner making his first appearance of the season.


Lucas Fadden '26 made his 2025 campaign debut in a more than impressive manner, shattering his own school record in the 100-meter dash at Grinnell's own Dick Young Classic Saturday.

Fadden won the race in 10.42 seconds, which ranks fifth at the NCAA Division III level this season and betters his school mark of 10.46 from last year.

Fadden was one of four Grinnell champs on the day. Other winners at the Darren Young Complex were Linus O'Brien '28 in the 200 (23.22), Andy Chestovich '26 in the 800 (1:57.63) and Xavier James '25 in the 400 hurdles (58.76).

Chestovich led an impressive charge in the 800, as Connor Heagy '26 placed third in 1:58.73, Cameron Welch-Groves '26 was fourth in 1:58.76, Luke Robinson '26 took seventh in 1:59.48 and Jason Newman '28 was eighth in 2:00.40.

In the 1500, Ben Abelow '28 was second in 4:14.72, Sam Beck '27 placed fourth in 4:19.37, Greyson Imm '28 placed sixth in 4:23.03, David In '28 was seventh in 4:24.40 and Carter Williams '25 took eighth in 4:27.31.

Jake Bell '27 posted the second-best discus performance in school history with a toss of 47.59 meters, which was good for second place. Ian Clawson '26 was sixth in the event at 44.62 meters, sixth all-time at GC.

Casey Oliveira '27 and Jack Novelle '26 were second in the triple jump and high jump with efforts of 13.23 meters and 1.86, respectively. Both marks rank eighth in program history. Caden Pfister '27 was fourth in the triple jump at 11.86 meters.
 
Clawson was second in the hammer at 53.36 meters, while Bell, Oleg Brennan '28 and Rory Leonard '28 were third, fourth and seventh in the javelin with throws of 42.66, 42.58 and 39.67.

Ilem Leisher '27 was second in the 110 hurdles in 15.77 and Jacob Schomberg '28 was sixth in 17.85. Schomberg was also fifth in the 400 hurdles in 1:02.97, Pfister placed fourth in the 200 in 23.40 and Glessner took fifth in the 400 in 52.71. In the 3000 steeplechase, Jack Ellwein '28 placed third in 12:05.51 and Max Jedlicka '28 was fourth in 12:12.16.

Jake Logue '28, Keaton Fitzgerald '26, O'Brien and Jake Warren '28 were fifth in the 4x100 relay in 43.25, which ranks ninth in program history. In the 4x400 relay, Glessner, Chestovich, O'Brien and Pfister were third in 3:27.82.
