Grinnell golfers make several entries onto leader board at Forester Spring Invite

Roger Smith leads the way for Pioneers

MUNDELEIN, Ill. - Some of the top scores in program history, both team-wise and individually, came Grinnell College's way at the Forester Spring Invite men's golf tournament Saturday.


Grinnell fired a two-day score of 606, the third-best score in Pioneer history and tops for the program since 1965. The Pioneers' score of 299 on Saturday at Countryside Golf Club matches the 11th-best one-round score and was six shots better than Friday's score. That helped Grinnell jump from 15th in the team standings to a 12th-place tie with Wisconsin Lutheran.

Roger Smith '28 had a two-day score of 2-over-par 146, tied for sixth in program history. He had a score of 1-over-par 71 on the final day of the meet and finished 26th among a field of 108 golfers.

Kevin Carpenter '25 shot 77 Saturday for an overall score of 148, 13th all-time at Grinnell. Thornton Walker '25 shot 75 Saturday for a 153, while Eshaan Sethi '25 had a 76 for an overall score of 159. John Robinson '25 recorded an overall score of 170 after shooting an 84.

Sethi had three birdies on Saturday, while Smith, Walker and Carpenter recorded two apiece.

Aurora won the team title with a 561 and Lake Forest's Tyler Wengronowitz was the individual champ with a 10-under-par 134.

Grinnell travels to Edinburgh, Ind., for the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Tournament May 4-6.
