Grinnell track and field team puts depth on display while winning Cornell Invite title

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa - Grinnell College's men's track and field team showcased its depth in capturing top honors at the Cornell Invitational Saturday.

The Pioneers piled up 188 points, easily beating runner-up Cornell College by 36 points in the six-team meet.

Champs for were Greyson Imm '28 in the 5000-meter run (16 minutes, 2.86 seconds), Jake Bell '27 in the discus (45.94 meters) and the 4x100 relay team of Jake Logue '28, Keaton Fitzgerald '26, Linus O'Brien '28 and Jesse Miller '28 (43.37). Bell's throw ranks third in program history and the 4x100 relay team's time is 10th.

Grinnell had a dominating effort in the 5000, placing athletes in the top four spots. After Imm, Aidan Michaelson '28 was second in 16:14.25, David In '28 placed third in 16:49.39 and Keely Miyamoto '26 took fourth in 16:57.26.

In the 800, Andy Chestovich '26 placed second in 2:00.23 and Cameron Welch-Groves '26 took third in 2:02.10. Connor Heagy '26, Jason Newman '28 and Ben Abelow '28 were second, third and fifth in the 1500 in 4:08.17, 4:08.22 and 4:17.49, respectively.

Xavier James '25 placed second in the 400 hurdles in 58.44 and fifth in the 110 hurdles in 16.58. Carter Williams '25 added a third-place finish in the 3000 steeplechase in 10:58.61.

Placing fourth in running events were Caden Pfister '27 in the 200 (22.93), O'Brien in the 400 (51.62) and the 4x400 relay team of Heagy, Luke Robinson '26, Chestovich and Newman (3:39.60).

Miller placed second in the long jump with a leap of 6.43 meters and Ian Clawson '26 was second in the hammer at 50.94 meters and third in the discus with a toss of 41.59. Oleg Brennan '28 took fourth in the discus at 41.09 meters.

In the javelin, Rory Leonard '28 placed third at 38.39 meters and Owen Block '27 was fifth at 35.28 meters.
