Grinnell men post 2 wins, school record on final day of MWC Outdoor Track and Field Championships

Results

APPLETON, Wis. - Grinnell College men's track and field athletes cruised to a pair of Midwest Conference Outdoor Championship titles and the 4x100-meter relay team shattered a school record on the final day of the meet Saturday.

Luke Robinson '26 claimed top honors in the 3000-meter steeplechase in 9 minutes, 41.40 seconds and Jack Novelle '26 was champ in the high jump with a leap of 1.94 meters. It marks the first MWC crown for each.

Novelle's leap is fourth-best in program history and the best since 2013, and marks Grinnell's first league title in the event since 1983. He was one of two jumpers to go 1.94, but won via a tie-breaker.

Robinson claimed the steeplechase title comfortably, beating the runner-up by more than 6 seconds. It marks the fourth year in a row a Grinnell athlete has won the event.

The 4x100 relay team of Jake Logue '28, Jesse Miller '28, Justin Rathburn '27 and Lucas Fadden '26 sprinted home in 42.33, toppling the previous school record of 42.54 set in 1993. They were fourth in the event.

Grinnell placed fifth in the team standings with 93 points. Monmouth College won the crown with 135.5.

Fadden again broke the MWC record (entering this season) in the 100, taking second in 10.54. He was also runner-up in the 200 in 21.14. Ian Clawson '26 was second in the hamer with a toss of 52.86 meters, while third place went to Xavier James '25 in the 400 hurdles (56.14) and Ben Abelow '28 in the 5000 (15:10.17).

Andy Chestovich '26 and Connor Heagy '26 were fifth and eighth in the 800 in 1:57.47 and 1:57.83, respectively. In the 110 hurdles, Ilem Leisher '26 placed fifth in 15.85 and James took seventh in 16.35.

The quartet of Clay Glessner '28, Chestovich, Caden Pfister '27 and Linus O'Brien '28 placed seventh in the 4x400 relay in 3:27.83 and O'Brien added an eighth-place finish in the 400 in 50.24.
