Quick start, strong finish propel Lucas Fadden into NCAA D-III 100-meter dash finals

Grinnell junior posts 7th-fastest prelim time on Friday

GENEVA, Ohio – Lucas Fadden '26 is certainly saving his best for last.

The Grinnell College men's track and field sprinter followed up Thursday's 13th-place finish in the 200-meter dash by punching his ticket to the 100-meter dash finals at the NCAA Division III Championships. That set him up to earn first-team All-America honors, which come with a top eight finish.

Fadden got out to a quick start in the second of three prelim races Friday afternoon at the SPIRE Institute on his way to a runner-up finish in the heat with a time of 10.58 seconds. The winner of the heat, 2024 Olympic Trials qualifier Sam Blaskowski of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, had the top qualifying time of 10.28 seconds.

Fadden had the seventh-fastest prelim time among the nine-competitor finals field and got a measure of revenge on Illinois College's Dylan Doss, who beat him at the Midwest Conference Championships and finished 13th overall Friday.

The finals are slated for 1:30 p.m. Central time Saturday. Fadden placed eighth in the 100 a year ago.

Just before Fadden competed, Grinnell graduate and current Emory graduate student Eva Carchidi ran the second-fastest women's 400 prelim time of 53.97 seconds. Her final is also Saturday.
