Fadden destroys league record in 100 prelims at MWC Championships

Pioneers also fare well in other events on opening day of meet

APPLETON, Wis. - Lucas Fadden '26 sprinted to a new Midwest Conference record to showcase the Grinnell College men's track and field team's performance on the opening day of the Midwest Conference Championships Friday.

Fadden cruised to a time of 10.46 in the 100-meter dash prelims, breaking the previous league mark of 10.61 by D.J. Jackson of Knox College. Fadden posted the fastest qualifying time in the event by more than a quarter-of-a-second.

Fadden also ran 21.83 in the 200 prelims, fourth-best entering Saturday's finals.

Jake Bell '27 took second in the javelin with a toss of 50.05 meters, which is seventh all-time at GC and the best since 2010. Luke Robinson '26 was fifth in the 1500 in 3:58.88, while Sam Beck '27 and Greyson Imm '28 were fifth and seventh in the 10,000 with times of 33:11.76 and 33:40.37, respectively.

Xavier James '25 had the third-best 400 hurdles prelim time of 55.95, which ranks 10th all-time at Grinnell and the top time for the program since 2012. Ilem Leisher '27 and James made the finals of the 110 hurdles, as well. Leisher had the fifth-best prelim time of 15.94 and James the seventh-best of 16.31.

Linus O'Brien ran the 400 prelims in 49.74, eighth in the field and the ninth-best time at GC. It is the top time at Grinnell since 2003.

The Pioneers are sixth in the team standings with 18 points, while Ripon College leads the field with 49.
