Women's Cross Country Ted Schultz

Grinnell women beat regionally-ranked team, give nationally-ranked Central a run for its money at Les Duke Invite

GRINNELL, Iowa – Grinnell College's women's cross country team rode a true pack attack to a huge finish at its own invitational Saturday.
 
Running the 63rd Annual Les Duke Invitational on a steamy day at Grinnell College Golf Course, the Pioneers put all five scorers between third and 10th place to claim second in the team standings with 33 points, just 11 behind champion and nationally-ranked Central College.
 
Sindri Bonner '28 led the charge for the Pioneers, who defeated regionally-ranked Cornell College, with a time of 23 minutes, 54.0 seconds. That time not only put her third in the 89-runner field, but ranks 40th in program history.
 
Morgan Karow '26 was close behind, placing fourth in 23:58.1, while Hannah Roark '26 was next in line with a seventh-place finish in 24:19.1. Rounding out Grinnell's scorers were Talia Harrison '27 and Tennyson Shultz '28, who were ninth and 10th in 24:41.0 and 25:01.4, respectively.
 
Also for Grinnell, Noelle Vu '28 placed 14th in 25:19.1 and Diana Barba '26 was 15th in 25:20.9.
 
Maddy Stevens of Central won the individual title in 23:23.1. Simpson was a distant third behind Grinnell in the six-team event with 91 points.
 
Grinnell has next weekend off before competing in the Central Dutch Open on Sept. 26.
