Hannah Roark cruises to season-opening cross country crown

PELLA, Iowa - Hannah Roark '26 outdid a field of 84 other runners to claim championship honors at the Central College Dutch Cross Country Invite Friday night.


Running the season-opening distance of 5000 meters, Roark toured the course in 18 minutes, 57.9 seconds. That time ranks 11th in program history and is the best at Grinnell in two years. She beat the runner-up from Central by more than 5 seconds.

Roark's performance helped Grinnell to second place in the team standings with 42 points, 16 behind champion Central in the seven-team affair.

Sindri Bonner '28 also had a strong showing for the Pioneers, placing fourth in 19:06.3. That time is 13th in program history.

Tennyson Shultz '28 was next in line for Grinnell, taking 11th in 19:58.8, while Talia Harrison '26 was right behind her in 12th with a time of 20:01.7. Those times are 41st and 44th in program history, respectively.

Rounding out Grinnell's scorers was Cindy Wang '28, 14th in 20:08.4. Two first-years were next in line, as Ella McEntee '29 was 17th in 20:24.2 and Lizzie Drew '29 placed 18th in 20:28.3.

Grinnell hosts the annual Les Duke Invitational next Saturday at the Grinnell College Golf Course.
