School record, event victories pave the way to strong performance by GC men's track and field team

PELLA, Iowa - Two event victories and a school record highlighted Grinnell College's men's track and field team's effort at the Dutch Athletic Classic Friday.

Running at the meet hosted by Central College, Jess Christensen '29 toppled Grinnell's record in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.78 seconds in the prelims. That beat the previous mark of 8.87, set earlier this season.

Christensen also won the long jump with a leap of 6.49 meters, while Spencer Lyau '29 was first in the 800 in 2:04.62.

Lyau led a strong charge in the 800 as Gabe Shiloh '29 placed second in 2:05.76, Sebastian Vilches '29 took third in 2:05.99, Henry Chiao '29 was fourth in 2:12.49 and Justin Lee '28 placed fifth in 2:15.59.

In the 3000, placing second through fifth were Sam Beck '27 (9:19.31), Leif Dahl '29 (9:20.71), Jack Lakin '29 (9:25.43) and Aidan Michaelson '28 (9:28.27).

Murphy Dykstra '27 was second in the triple jump with a leap of 12.12 meters, while Christensen and Casey Oliveira '27 were third and fourth with leaps of 11.87 meters and 11.82, respectively.

Jesse Miller '28 and Ian Clawson '26 were second in the long jump and weight throw with performances of 6.42 meters and 17.15. Jack Novelle '26 took third in the high jump with a leap of 1.92 meters, which is tied for fourth in program history.

George Stenberg '29 took second in the 60 in 7.00 and 200 in 23.65, Taking fourth were Caden Pfister '27 in the 300 (36.70), Cameron Welch-Groves '26 in the 600 (1:28.22) and Lakin in the mile (4:43.01).

In the 4x400, Welch-Groves, Ryan Hill '27, Connor Heagy '26 and Andy Chestovich '26 were fourth in 3:50.99.
