School record and event victories spark GC men's track and field team

Results

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa - One school record and a pair of event victories highlighted Grinnell College's men's track and field team's performance Saturday at the Cornell College Hilltop Invitational.


Event wins came from Jess Christensen '29 in the triple jump with a leap of 12.53 meters and Jack Lakin '29 in the 3000-meter run in 9 minutes, 8.67 seconds.

Christensen also broke his own school record in the 60 hurdles, first with a time of 8.74 in the prelims and then in the finals with a clocking of 8.69. That was good for fourth place.

Those efforts helped Grinnell to a runner-up finish in the team standings with 128 points. Only Augustana College, with 164, finished ahead of the Pioneers.

Grinnell got a runner-up finish from its 1600 sprint medley relay team of George Stenberg '29, Linus O'Brien '28, Caden Pfister '27 and Andy Chestovich '26. Their time of 3:37.49 ranks eighth in GC history.

Also placing second were Murphy Dykstra '27 in the triple jump (12.52 meters), O'Brien in the 400 (51.82) and Leif Dahl '29 in the 3000 (9:09.15).

Taking third were Jesse Miller '28 in the long jump (6.49 meters), Ian Clawson in the weight throw (16.81 meters), Stenberg in the 60 (7.05), Pfister in the 200 (23.15) and Luke Robinson '26 in the mile (4:24.31).

Casey Oliveira '27 was fourth in the triple jump at 11.84 meters and Gabe Shiloh '29 had the same placing in the 800 in 2:05.21. Also taking fourth was the 4x200 relay team of Jake Logue '28, Keaton Fitzgerald '26, David Eisenberg '29 and Jake Warren '28. Their time was 1:36.43.

Aidan Michaelson '28 was fifth in the 3000 in 9:16.98 and Cayden Smith '29 took sixth in 9:19.91. Eli Grzelweski '29 placed fifth in the 60 in 7.07 and Jack Novelle '26 was sixth in the high jump at 1.90 meters.

Also for Grinnell, Jake Bell '27 threw 13.45 meters in the weight throw, good for ninth on the all-time program chart.
