Pioneer men dominate the field at own Grinnell Indoor Invitational

GRINNELL, Iowa - The host school's men's track and field team was simply dominant at its own Grinnell Indoor Invitational Saturday at the Bear Center Field House.

The Pioneers shattered two meet records and one school mark on the day, with Lucas Fadden '26 having a hand in both, on their way to winning the team title at the event.

Grinnell piled up 135 points on the day, beating runner-up Central College by 30 in the 13-team affair. 

Fadden joined George Stenberg '29, Jesse Miller '28 and Caden Pfister '27 to win the 4x200-meter relay in 1 minute, 29.80 seconds. That bettered the 11-year-old meet mark of 1:30.58 by the University of Dubuque and topped the previous school record of 1:30.50, set earlier this year. 

Fadden also emerged victorious in a loaded 60 dash field with a meet-record time of 6.77. He topped the previous mark of 6.84, established twice including last year and also in 2015, in the prelims with a clocking of 6.81. Stenberg finished seventh in the race in 7.08 and Vincent Shen '29 ran 7.16 in the prelims, which ranks seventh in program history.

Other champs for Grinnell were Jack Novelle '26 in the high jump (1.88 meters), Pfister in the 400 (51.17, fifth all-time at Grinnell), Spencer Lyau '29 in the 800 (2:01.15) and Ben Abelow '28 in the 5000 (15:32.46).

Abelow led a strong Grinnell charge in the 5000 as Leif Dahl '29 was second in 15:38.91, Jack Lakin '29 took third in 15:42.50, Aidan Michaelson '28 finished fourth in 15:49.69, Sam Beck '27 was fifth in 15:54.92 and Greyson Imm '28 took seventh in 16:05.20.

Jess Christensen '29 was second in the long jump and third in the triple jump with leaps of 6.34 meters and 12.93, respectively. Miller was third in the long jump at 6.29 meters and Murphy Dykstra '27 was fifth in the triple jump with a leap of 12.34 meters.

In the weight throw, Ian Clawson '26 placed second with a heave of 17.21 meters. Caleb Leopoldo '28 threw 13.66 meters, eighth in program history.

The 4x400 relay team of Linus O'Brien '28, Andy Chestovich '26, Quentin Kelley '29 and Owen Block '27 was fourth in 3:37.83 and O'Brien placed fifth in the 200 in 23.05, which ranks sixth in program history.

Ilem Leisher '27 was sixth in the 60 hurdles in 8.73, which ranks second in program history. Connor Heagy '26 took sixth in the mile in 4:30.67 and Ryan Hill '27 finished eighth in the 3000 in 9:34.14.
