Grinnell women's track and field team enjoys balanced performance at home meet

GRINNELL, Iowa - A balanced performance propelled the Grinnell College women's track and field team to a strong performance at its own Grinnell Indoor Invitational Saturday.


The Pioneers finished second in the 15-team affair at the Bear Center Field House with 118 points, finishing only behind Central College.

Grinnell gathered four event victories, two by individuals and two in relays. Individual champs were Steph Kama-Kama '28 in the high jump (1.50 meters) and Tennyson Shultz '28 in the 800-meter run (2 minutes, 26.54 seconds).

Grinnell also won the 4x200 relay with Keelin Swisher '29, Kate Solano '29, Jessie Goodman '26 and Rajanea Landers '28 (1:50.54, ninth all-time at GC) and sprint medley relay with Swisher, Landers, Solano and Carolina Corcoran (4:32.96).

Besides Shultz, Grinnell dominated the 800 as Sindri Bonner '28 took second in 2:26.88, Noelle Vu '28 placed third in 2:28.09, Corcoran finished sixth in 2:29.31 and Edie Broadmoore '29 took seventh in 2:29.69.

In the 3000, Hannah Roark '26 was fourth in 10:45.36, Hannah Roth '27 took fifth in 10:51.47, Arushi Kharbanda '29 was sixth in 10:54.29 and Lizzie Drew '29 placed seventh in 11:05.11.

Talia Harrison '26 and Ella McEntee '29 were second and fifth in the 5000, respectively, with times of 19:00.96 and 19:24.30. Landers was third in the long jump at 5.00 meters, Kylie Galowitz '26 placed seventh in the weight throw at 13.53 meters and eighth in the shot put with a toss of 11.35 and Kirsten Kelly '29 took eighth in the high jump at 1.45 meters.

Emily Summers '29 was fourth in the 400 in 1:03.27, the same placing as Bonner in the mile (5:23.66) and Goodman in the 60 hurdles (10.01). Solano was seventh in the 200 in 27.59.

Grinnell was sixth in the 4x400 relay with a time of 4:27.96. Runners were Summers, Shultz, Corcoran and Beatrice Ebel '28 (4:27.96).
