Pioneer men shatter meet, school records at own Darren Young Classic

GRINNELL, Iowa - Grinnell College's men's track and field team shined brightly at its own Darren Young Classic, with both meet and school records taking a tumble at the Bear Center Field House over the weekend.


Lucas Fadden '26 shattered a nine-year-old meet record in winning the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.78 seconds. That topped the previous mark of 22.02 and also beat his own school record of 22.00 set earlier this season.

Grinnell's also had a school mark from Luke Robinson '26, who won the 3000 in 8:27.13. He also had the previous school mark of 8:28.50 established last season.

The Pioneers' other school record came from Jess Christensen '29 in the 60 hurdles. He beat his previous mark of 8.69 in the prelims with a clocking of 8.51, and then finished fourth in the finals with an 8.43.

Grinnell also had a winner in Ian Clawson '26, who emerged from a field of 48 contestants to claim the weight throw with a toss of 17.50 meters. That ranks 35th in D-III this season. Also taking first was Andy Chestovich '26 in the 800 with a time of 1:57.84.

Besides Robinson in the 3000, Grinnell had several other high place winners in the race including Ben Abelow '28 (third in 8:50.60), Connor Heagy '26 (fifth in 9:00.77), Aidan Michaelson '28 (sixth in 9:00.86), Jack Lakin '29 (seventh in 9:01.69) and Spencer Lyau '29 (eighth in 9:04.46).

In the mile, Lyau, Chestovich and Heagy were third, fourth and sixth in 4:28.03, 4:28.25 and 4:29.17, respectively. Abelow was sixth in the 5000 in 15:11.48, the 10th-best time in GC history.

Eli Grzelewski '29 was fourth in the 60 in 7.04, which ranks third in GC history. Jake Logue '28 was fifth in 7.06. Jesse Miller '28 and George Stenberg '29 were fourth and sixth in the 200 in 22.86 and 22.90. Those times are fourth and fifth in GC history.

Caden Pfister '27 was fourth in the 400 in 50.73, a time that ranks fourth all-time at GC and best for the program since 1992. Linus O'Brien, Chestovich, Robinson and Pfister were sixth in the 4x400 relay in 3:31.29.

Christensen, Murphy Dykstra '27 and Casey Oliveira '27 were fourth through sixth in the triple jump with leaps of 12.72 meters, 12.44 and 12.03. Miller took third in the long jump with a jump of 6.30 meters and Jack Novelle '26 was fourth in the high jump at 1.90. Jake Bell '27 threw 13.59 meters in the weight throw, ninth all-time at GC.
