GC athletes claim 4 event titles at Darren Young Classic

GRINNELL, Iowa - Grinnell College's women's track and field team rolled up four event victories and several other high finishes on its way to a strong showing at its own Darren Young Classic over the weekend.


Morgan Karow '26 won two events at the Bear Center Field House, claiming top honors in the 3000-meter run in 10 minutes, 41.36 seconds and 5000 in 18:05.62. Her time in the latter ranks fourth in GC history.

Hannah Roark '26 won the mile in 5:13.64, which is eighth all-time at Grinnell. The Pioneers' other champ was Rajanea Landers '28 in the triple jump with a leap of 10.28 meters.

Joining Karow as high finishers in the 3000 were Sindri Bonner '28 (second in 10:41.46), Talia Harrison '26 (third in 10:49.36), Hannah Roth '27 (fourth in 10:56.97), Ella McEntee '29 (fifth in 10:58.77), Emma Wharton-Hsieh '27 (seventh in 11:05.04) and Lizzie Drew '29 (eighth in 11:06.89).

In the mile, Bonner was second in 5:20.09, Beatrice Ebel '28 took fifth in 5:32.11 and Carolina Corcoran '29 placed seventh in 5:34.67. Roark was second in the 800 in 2:20.34, Noelle Vu '28 placed fifth in 2:26.62, Corcoran took sixth in 2:27.33 and Ebel was eighth in 2:30.58.

Kate Solano '29 placed third in the 400 in 1:01.73, which ranks ninth in GC history. Also in that race, Emily Summers '29 was fifth in 1:03.18 and Tennyson Shultz '28 was sixth in 1:03.33.

Keelin Swisher '29 was fifth in both the 60 and 200 in times of 8.00 and 27.05. Her 60 time is second in GC history and the 200 clocking is seventh).

Roth placed sixth in the 5000 in 18:34.09, the same placing as Jessie Goodman '26 in the 60 hurdles. Her time was 10.12. Summers, Vu, Shultz and Solano teamed up to finish third in the 4x400 relay in 4:10.60, the sixth-best time at GC.

Landers placed fourth in the long jump with a leap of 5.06 meters, fourth all-time at GC. In the triple jump, Solano was second at 9.93 meters, Steph Kama Kama '28 was third at 9.59 and Kirsten Kelly '29 placed fifth at 9.12. Lily Mayo '28 placed eighth in the high jump with a leap of 1.42 meters.
