Pioneer women's track and field team dominates at own Dick Young Classic

Grinnell piles up 241 points to easily claim team crown

GRINNELL, Iowa - Grinnell College's women's track and field team dominated the competition Saturday at its own Dick Young Classic.

Competing on a gray and cold day at the Darren Young Track and Field Complex, the Pioneers won nine events and piled up 241 points to easily beat runner-up Grand View's total of 111.5 points.

Steph Kama-Kama '28 won two individual events, taking first in the high jump and triple jump with leaps of 1.48 meters and 10.45, respectively. Her performance in the triple jump ranks fifth in GC history.

Other individual champs for Grinnell were Emily Summers '29 in the 400-meter dash (1 minute, 2.18 seconds), Hannah Roark '26 in the 800 (2:18.35), Morgan Karow '26 in the 1500 (4:56.78), Jessie Goodman '26 in the 100 hurdles (16.38) and Rajanea Landers '28 in the long jump (5.02 meters). Goodman's time in the hurdles is fourth in Grinnell history.

Grinnell also won both relays, taking first in the 4x100 with Keelin Swisher '29, Kate Solano '29, Lily Mayo '28 and Landers (51.27) and 4x400 with Summers, Tennyson Shultz '28, Noelle Vu '28 and Roark (4:12.93).

Grinnell runners-up were Swisher in the 100 (12.73), Landers in the 200 (27.01), Shultz in the 400 (1:02.50) and Sindri Bonner '28 in the 800 (2:23.03). Third place went to Kama-Kama in the 100 (13.21), Vu in the 800 (2:24.92), Lizzie Drew '29 in the 1500 (4:58.55), Goodman in the 400 hurdles (1:09.11), Kirsten Kelly '29 in the high jump (1.45 meters) and Mayo in the long jump (4.69 meters). Goodman's time in the hurdles ranks sixth in Grinnell history.
