Pioneer men's track and field team races to 3rd-place finish at MWC Outdoor Championships

School record, event victory highlight GC's performance on final day of meet

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa - Grinnell College's men's track and field team tied a school record and got an individual title from distance star Luke Robinson '26 on its way to a third-place finish at the 2026 Midwest Conference Outdoor Championships Saturday.


The 4x100-meter relay team of Jake Logue '28, George Stenberg '29, Jesse Miller '28 and Eli Grzelewski '29 sprinted to a runner-up finish in 42.33 seconds, tying the school mark established in 2025.

Robinson claimed top honors in the 3000 steeplechase for the second year in a row, running the race in 9:35.11. Also in that event, Greyson Imm '28 took fifth in 10:16.11.

Grinnell finished the two-day meet at Cornell College's facility with 119 points, just eight behind the runner-up host school. Illinois College was first with 155 points.

Grinnell had five runners-up Saturday, including Jake Bell '27 in the javelin (50.82 meters), Jess Christensen '29 in the triple jump (13.06 meters, 10th all-time at GC) and 110 hurdles (14.93, third all-time at GC) and Jack Novelle '26 in the high jump (1.91 meters). Also placing second was the 4x400 relay team of Stenberg, Andy Chestovich '26, Gabe Shiloh '29 and Caden Pfister '27 (3:22.51, ninth all-time).

Ilem Leisher '26 was fourth in the 110 hurdles in 15.40, while Robinson, Chestovich and Spencer Lyau '29 were fifth through seventh in the 800 with times of 1:56.05, 1:56.48 and 1:57.92, respectively.

Zane Maxwell '29 and Rory Leonard '28 were fifth and eighth in the javelin with throws of 45.45 and 43.82 meters. Pfister took sixth in the 400 in 51.99, while Grzelewski placed seventh in the 200 in 22.13 and Ben Abelow '28 had the same placing in the 5000 with a time of 15:17.50. Grabbing eighth place were Max Jedlicka '28 in the 400 hurdles (59.66) and Jack Lakin '29 in the 5000 (16:00.00).
