Grinnell College Athletics Hall of Fame
Agne Lukoševiciute '21 arrived at Grinnell College having never competed in the hammer throw. By the time she graduated, she had become an All-American, a Lithuanian national champion, and a national record holder.
One of the most dominant performers in Grinnell women's track and field history, Lukoševiciute earned All-America honors at the 2019 NCAA Division III Championships by placing third in the discus and fifth in the hammer throw. She opened the meet in the discus, becoming the Pioneers' first All-American in 17 years with a career-best throw of 47.31 meters (155-2.75). She followed that performance with a mark of 52.36 meters (171-9) in the hammer, becoming just the third Pioneer woman to earn All-America honors in two events at the same meet.
That summer, Lukoševiciute traveled to Lithuania to train for and compete in her first Lithuanian National Championships. Her winning throw of 60.48 meters (198-5) shattered the previous national record by more than six meters, eclipsing a mark that had stood since 2007.
She holds Grinnell program records in the hammer throw and weight throw with marks of 60.48 meters (198-5) and 18.37 meters (60-3.25), respectively. She also ranks second in the indoor shot put (12.79 meters/41-11.5) and discus, and third in the outdoor shot put. A three-time All-Region performer and two-time USTFCCCA All-Academic honoree, she was named the Midwest Conference Outdoor Outstanding Field Performer and won four conference titles before her Grinnell career was cut short due to COVID-19. She graduated as the recipient of the Grace McIlrath Parker '11 Award, given for outstanding performance on the athletic field in a single sport.
After Grinnell, Lukoševiciute continued to pursue the hammer throw. She added another five-plus meters to the Lithuanian national record at a professional meet in California in 2021, recording a career-best mark of 66.09 meters (216-10). Her training carried her from Chicago to Seattle and eventually to Berkeley, California, where she joined one of the top post-collegiate hammer training groups in the world. Representing Lithuania at competitions across Europe and North America, she was a five-time national champion by the time she stepped away from the sport in 2024.
Today, Lukoševiciute works as a software engineer at Microsoft and is charting her next adventure with her dog and favorite co-pilot Moon. She has enjoyed occasional volunteer coaching sessions with local middle and high school throwers, and hopes to give back more to the sport through coaching in the future.
