Grinnell College Athletics Hall of Fame
Haley Levin ’16 set a high standard early in her swimming and diving career at Grinnell and continued to excel throughout her time with the program.
Levin is Grinnell’s most recent All-American women’s swimmer, earning Honorable Mention recognition in the 400-yard individual medley with a 15th-place national finish in 2013. She also placed 17th in the 200 breaststroke and 21st in the 200 individual medley that year. Levin is one of only three Grinnell women to earn Midwest Conference Outstanding Swimmer honors, doing so in both 2013 and 2014. She was a 12-time conference champion, beginning with titles in the 200 breaststroke, 200 and 400 individual medleys and as part of the 200 medley relay team. In 2014, she again won the 200 breaststroke and both individual medleys, while also contributing to first-place finishes in the 400 and 800 freestyle relays. She added conference titles in the 400 individual medley and the 400 and 800 freestyle relays in 2015 and was a member of the winning 800 freestyle relay team again in 2016. During her career, the Pioneers captured all four Midwest Conference team championships.
Levin continues to hold Grinnell school records in the 200 individual medley (2:06.75) and 400 individual medley (4:27.66). She also appears on the program’s all-time top-10 list in 10 additional events, ranking second in the 200 breaststroke and as part of the 800 freestyle relay, fourth in the 200 freestyle and seventh in the 100 breaststroke. Levin excelled in the classroom, earning second-team Scholar-Athlete honors from the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America.
She majored in psychology with a concentration in neuroscience. After Grinnell, she spent a year in Israel teaching English and found her calling. She returned to the United States a year later, got her masters degree in Secondary Math Education from DePaul University, and started her career as a math teacher. Nowadays she’s happily living in Boulder Colorado, teaching math and coaching the girls swim team at Niwot High School. She is actively earning a second masters degree in Leadership for Educational Organizations from University of Colorado Denver and will graduate having obtained her principal license along the way by the summer of 2027. In her free time, she enjoys hiking and climbing during the warmer months and skis all winter. She also has a passion for traveling, having traveled to over 20 different countries since her time here at Grinnell.
