Pioneer women's soccer team loses hard-fought decision to Monmouth

Box Score MONMOUTH, Ill. – The Grinnell College women's soccer team lost a hard-fought 2-1 decision to Monmouth College Saturday.

The contest was scoreless at halftime before the hosts went ahead 1-0 on an Ashley Reynoso goal in the 56th minute.

Grinnell drew even in the 78th minute on Hannah Safter's '14 first goal of the season, but Reynoso countered 27 seconds later with her second goal of the game to provide the winning margin.

The teams each had five shots, with Safter taking two of Grinnell's and Patty Murphy-Geiss '14, Eva Smith '16 and Dabney Hofammann '15 taking one each.

Jordan Young '14 and Katy Oldach '16 each played a half at keeper for Grinnell, with Oldach making one save.

Monmouth improved to 7-2-1 in the Midwest Conference and 9-6-3 overall, while the Pioneers fell to 6-3 in the league and 6-8-1 in all games.

The Pioneers finish the regular season tomorrow with a crucial MWC home contest against Ripon College. Action at Springer Field begins at 11 a.m.
