Grinnell women's soccer team looking to make most of return trip to MWC Tourney

Box Score LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The Grinnell College women's soccer team is looking to make the most of its return trip to the Midwest Conference Tournament in 2012.

The Pioneers are seeded fourth in the event at 7-3 in the league standings and 7-8-1 overall. They will play top-seed and tourney host Lake Forest College at 11 a.m. Friday. The Foresters is 8-1-1 in the league and 12-5-1 in all contests.

Grinnell comes into the game ranked third in the league in goals allowed per game (1.44) and eighth in goals scored (1.88).

Grinnell's offense has been sparked by Kathryn Vincent '13 and Patty Murphy-Geiss '14, who both have five goals. Dabney Hofammann '15 and Maddie Gray '16 have three goals each, while Hofammann, Abby Jaeger '14, Andie Semlow '16 and Mackenzie Shanahan '14 have two assists apiece.

Katy Oldach '16 and Jordan Young '14 have split time at keeper. Oldach has a 1.42 goals against average and .711 saves percentage, while Young has a 1.43 goals against average and .722 saves percentage.

Grinnell and Lake Forest met Sept. 15 on the latter's field, with the Foresters earning a 1-0 victory.

Lake Forest leads the conference in goals scored at 2.89 a game and is second in goals allowed at 1.11.

Michelle Greeneway and Holly Lesperance are tied for fourth in the league in goals scored with 14 apiece, while Lisa Sorensen is tied for third in assists with eight.

Friday's semifinal round winner will meet either St. Norbert College or Monmouth College at 11 a.m. Saturday for the title and the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Division III National Championships.
