Grinnell loses hard-fought 2-1 women's soccer battle at Central

Box Score PELLA – Grinnell College's women's soccer team cut into a 2-0 deficit with a late first-half goal, but could get no closer as Central College clung on to a 2-1 non-conference victory Thursday.

After Alayna Bailey scored in the 19th and 21st minutes to put the hosts up by two, Grinnell raced back just 17 seconds before halftime when Sarah Jensen '15 scored her first goal of the season. The assist came from Dabney Hofammann '16, her first assist of the year.

Neither team could find the back of the net in the second half as Central improved to 7-2 and the Pioneers dipped to 1-5-1.

Central won the shots battle 11-4. Kathryn Vincent '13 had two of Grinnell's shots, including one on goal, while Jensen had the other two, both which were on goal.

Jordan Young '14 worked the first half at keeper for Grinnell and had four saves. Katy Oldach '16 had one save in the second half.

The Pioneers step back into Midwest Conference action Saturday when Illinois College visits Springer Field. Game time is 11 a.m.
