Grinnell women's soccer team wins 3rd consecutive MWC contest

Box Score GRINNELL, Iowa – After opening up Midwest Conference play with a loss two weeks ago, the Grinnell College women's soccer team has hit its stride.

The Pioneers won their third league contest in a row Saturday, outshooting Knox 26-3 in a 1-0 victory at Springer Field.

Maddie Gray '16 scored the lone goal of the game for the Pioneers, who are 3-1 in the MWC and 3-5-1 overall. Knox fell to 0-3 in the league and 2-6 in all games.

Gray's goal, her first of the season, came in the 68th minute on an assist by Kathryn Hardy '13. On the play, Hardy crossed it from a corner and Gray headed it right to the corner of the post for the score. It was Hardy's first assist of the year.

Kathryn Vincent '13 had eight of Grinnell's shots, while Patty Murphy-Geiss '14 and Abby Jaeger '14 had three each. Getting two shots each were Eva Smith '16 and Nicole Sipfle '16.

Jordan Young '14 played the first half at keeper for the Pioneers and had four saves, while Katy Oldach '16 worked the second half and earned the victory while providing solid play in the net. Others credited with solid defense were Hardy and Nora Bresette-Buccino '16.

Grinnell steps out of league play Sunday when Augustana College visits Springer Field. Game time is 2:30 p.m.
